There's nothing better than receiving a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers, and with a little bit of care, you can enjoy them for even longer.
At A Bunch of Blooms, freshness is something we're incredibly passionate about. Rather than buying huge quantities of flowers, we carefully source fresh stems throughout the week, choosing what's in season and looking its very best. Every stem is conditioned with care before it's arranged into your bouquet, so when your flowers arrive, they're as fresh as they can be.
Once your flowers are home, there are a few simple things you can do to help them stay looking beautiful for even longer.
Start with a clean vase
Before arranging your flowers, give your vase a good wash with warm, soapy water. Even if it looks clean, bacteria can build up inside and shorten the life of your flowers.
Recut the stems
Before placing your flowers into water, trim around 1–2cm from the bottom of each stem at an angle. This helps the flowers absorb fresh water more easily.
If your bouquet is still looking lovely after a few days, you can trim the stems again when you change the water.
Keep the water fresh
Fresh flowers are surprisingly thirsty, especially during the first couple of days.
Check the water level every day and top it up if needed. Every two or three days, empty the vase, give it a quick rinse and refill it with fresh, clean water. This helps keep bacteria to a minimum and gives your flowers the best chance of lasting longer.
Keep flowers away from heat
Flowers are happiest somewhere cool.
Avoid placing them:
- In direct sunlight
- Next to radiators
- Near fireplaces
- Beside televisions or other heat sources
A cooler room will often help your flowers last even longer.
Remove fading flowers
As some flowers naturally come to the end of their life, simply remove them from the bouquet.
This allows the remaining flowers to continue looking their best and keeps the arrangement feeling fresh.
